​​​​Essay Writting

This course aims at developing students' mechanical writing and editing skills. The course provides students with the basic rules of writing a well-organized paragraph and essay with special reference to unity and coherence


​Intoduction to Linguistics 

Providing students with more advanced and current linguistic notions with emphasis on such issues as universal linguistic principles, linguistic principles, and linguistic creativity. In addition, it provides students with more syntactic, phonological and morphological features of English with emphasis on comparing English to another language regarding such features. It introduces students to the theory of transformational syntax, the social and cultural matrix of language and the issue of language variation, and the historical matrix of language and the issue of language change.



Language Acquisition 

This course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts and technical terms of language acquisition. In addition, the course content provides students with a solid background knowledge about the main theories of first language acquisition as well as the main theories of second language acquisition. The course introduces some relevant research findings related to teaching/learning of English as a second or foreign language

​Advanced Grammar 1

​
This course is to familiarize students with the different parts of speech, types of phrases and sentences. Moreover, it provides students with general knowledge on tense sequence, question formation, and negation.



Phonetics 1

This course is to familiarize students with the English vowels, articulatory production of speech sounds, phonetic symbols, and characteristics of vowel and consonant sound

Basics of Translation 

​
This course is designed to familiarize students with translation concepts, strategies, and theories. It introduces the basic skills of translating simple texts from one into another (English or Arabic).



​​Essay Writing II

This course aims at developing students' advance academic writing skills. It provides students with the basic rules of academic writing (paragraph and essay level



Introduction To American Literature

This course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to reading and analyzing American literature; Poetry, Drama and Novel. It also supplies students with historical background of the development of American Literature.

This course provides students with the basic information about the development of the English language since Geoffrey Chaucer's time till the end of the eighteenth centur


Phonetics II

This course provides students with the basic information and skill of English consonants, vowels, diphthongs, syllables, stress, and intonation. In addition, it introduces some aspects of connected speech like elision, assimilation and allophonic variations.



Civilization II​​

This course provides students with a sold background on the main historical events and characters that left a great impact on the English histor



Drama I

This course familiarizes students with the basic concepts and literary terms of drama. It provides students with the basic skills of analyzing play



Syntax and Morphology

This course familiarizes students with the basic syntactic, phonological, morphological, and semantic features of English. It introduces the theory of transformational synta



Novel I

This course is to familiarize students with a best selection of English novels. It helps students to read and recognize the aesthetic qualities and processes that characterize works of human intellect and imagination during early ages of English novels. Reading novels by distinguished writes: charlotte Bronte, Henry fielding, and Jane Austen.



​Poetry I

This course is to familiarize students with a best selection of English poetry and poetic terminology. It helps students to read and recognize the aesthetic qualities and English poetry and the various poetic schools in English Literature. 



Translation I

This course is to familiarize students with translating simple texts (English & Arabic) using proper translation strategies. It presents and explains some common mistakes of translatio



Civilization II

The course aims at getting students acquainted with the political, social, and economic history of the 16th and 17th centuries England. It also aims at introducing students to some literary figures that influenced and got influenced by the conditions of their time.



Drama II

This course is to familiarize students with different concepts and conventions of theatre and drama during the Restoration age. It also aims at introducing students to longer tragedies by William Shakespeare, in addition to some other plays by representative dramatists of the Restoration and 18th century periods. 



Novel II

​
This course aims mainly at introducing students to the early British novel till the end of the 19th century. It is intended to help students understand and appreciate the literary product of the founders of the novel. 



​Poetry II

​
This course focuses on 18th century English poetry to give students the opportunity to examine significant works of the human intellect and imagination; and understand the historical and cultural contexts in which such specific texts were created and recognize the accomplishments of and issues related to the diverse cultures reflected in such works of art.



Drama III

This course is to familiarize students with different concepts and conventions of theatre and drama during the modern age, including Shakespearean traged



Novel III

This course is to familiarize students with concepts and conventions of 19th century novel. It also aims at introducing students to representative novels by prominent writers of the age. Further, the course aims at giving students a brief outline of the development of the novel in the 19th century.



Poetry III

This course is to familiarize students with 19th century English poetry. It gives students the opportunity to examine significant works of the human intellect and imagination; and understand the historical and cultural contexts in which such specific texts were created and recognize the accomplishments of and issues related to the diverse cultures reflected in such works of art.



Semantics

The course aims at introducing some basic approaches to the study of meaning in Linguistics and related fields (primarily Cognitive Science and Psychology). The primary focus will be on word meaning (lexical semantics



​​Theoretical Criticism 

The course is to familiarize students with the literary theory and the main schools of literary criticism.



Transiation III

This course is to familiarize students with translating technical texts (English & Arabic) using proper translation strategies. It presents and explains some common mistakes of translating technical texts.



Error Analysis

This course is to familiarize students with identifying types, causes, remedies of common errors in oral and written English. 



​Novel IV

This course is to familiarize students with concepts and conventions of the English novel from 1914 to the present. It also aims at introducing students to representative novels by prominent writers of the age. Further, the course aims at giving students a brief outline of the development of the contemporary novel.



Poetry IV

This course is to familiarize students with the Victorian and Modern poetry. It gives students the opportunity to examine significant works of the human intellect and imagination; and understand the historical and cultural contexts in which such specific texts were created.



Applied Criticism

The course is to familiarize students with neo-classical and romantic criticism. It gives students the opportunity to examine significant works of the human intellect and imagination and understand the historical and cultural contexts in which such works were created.



Translation IV


This course is to familiarize students with translating literary and culturally loaded texts (English & Arabic) using proper translation strategies. It presents and explains some common mistakes of translating cultural texts.
