AN INTRAVENOUS THERAPY TRAINING



The Vice Deanship for Development and Quality, represented by the Quality and Academic Accreditation Unit in the college, set up an induction and preparation program for new faculty members on Tuesday 14/4/1444 AH corresponding to 11/8/2022 AD.

The event started with a welcome remarks and overview of the program from Dr. Jay “Qais" N. Ablao. This was followed by the discussion of the introductory concepts on the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system from Dr. Analita Gonzales, the role of fluids and electrolytes in the maintenance of homeostasis and the different fluid and electrolyte imbalances were discussed by Dr. Mathar  Mohideen, the MOH IVT Policies and lifespan considerations in IVT were discussed by Dr. Jesusa Gutierrez, the common complications and documentation of IV and blood transfusion therapy were discussed by Ms. Khawla Dauod, the steps in starting, maintaining and discontinuing IV therapy were discussed by Ms. Yolanda Cabaltica and the demonstration of blood transfusion with video presentation was presented and discussed by Ms. Eloisa Bonus.

The second day was started with a recapitulation of the first day activities followed by guided practice after the demonstration. The participants performed the steps in Starting, Maintaining & Discontinuing IV and blood transfusion therapy based on a client scenario during the practical examination utilizing the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) approach.

In addition, a post-activity evaluation tool was given to assess if their needs were met. This evaluation also gives an idea on how well the activity has achieved its objectives.

The Department of Nursing, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, University of Tabuk's with the Sigma Alpha Beta Kappa Chapter leadership is really making history by extending its services to the community where it belongs. This could set off another worthwhile activity that will influence the lives of the healthcare professionals.​
